Update

The procedure is complete and went well, Glory to God!

She is back in her room sleeping off the anesthesia.

Kyphoplasty

Mom is in the OR for kyphoplasty. What the heck is that? The doctor will make 2 quarter inch incisions so he can inject a substance that will stabilize the fractured vertebra. The procedure is done under a general anesthesia and the doc's part takes about 30 minutes. She will be in recovery for another hour and a half. If all goes well she could be discharged from the hospital today.

She has recently watched and loved a movie called, "Something the Lord Made". I have seen it, too. The most memorable moment for me is when the main character in the movie says that his work is "something the Lord made". This simple phrase defines my "worldview". Everything good is a result of God as Creator. James 1:17 says, "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." The medical grade cement that is being used on Mom is "something the Lord made", praise God, and we are praying and hoping it is His good and perfect gift to take away Mom's pain from this fracture. Also praying for His insight and guidance for pain relief from her other, older, healed lumbar spine fractures. And that He will strengthen her entire skeleton so she won't have anymore breaks. Please join us in these prayers. Jesus said in Matthew 18, "I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there I am with them "
Alleluia!

Jane 2/28/11

Today is day 3 at Methodist Hospital, Sugar Land, for my mom, Jane. We brought her in on Saturday morning through the ER because she was in severe pain from a vertebral compression fracture in her mid-back. After several differing opinions about the age of the fracture we found out that it is indeed a recent or acute fracture. This was revealed by an MRI yesterday. This morning we talked with Dr. Wood who is an orthopedic back surgeon and he has scheduled her for kyphoplasty tomorrow. This is a procedure where bone cement is injected into the fracture to stabilize it. In most cases the pain relief is immediate.

We are able to do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
